Erasmus+ Workshop on Joint, Dual and Double Degree programmes

The National Erasmus+ Office (NEO) Algeria, in collaboration with the Higher Education Reform Experts (HERE), organized a hybrid national workshop on May 20-21, 2024, at the National High School for Marine Sciences and Coastal (ENSSMAL) in Dely Brahim, Algiers. The workshop, focusing on “Joint, Dual, and Double Degree programmes in Algerian Higher Education” brought together key stakeholders to discuss and strategize the implementation of these collaborative degree programs in Algeria.

The event aimed to enhance understanding and implementation of joint, dual, and double degree programs within Algerian higher education institutions. Participants explored the benefits, challenges, and key elements of these programs, drawing on both European and Algerian experiences.

The event was enriched by the participation of Ulrike Krawagna, an EU expert from the University of Graz, Austria, who brought valuable insights from her extensive experience in overseeing joint degree programs. Her expertise was particularly valuable, given her prior roles as a Bologna Promoter and as a coordinator for numerous Tempus and Erasmus Mundus projects.

The workshop featured case studies from European and Algerian institutions, providing practical insights into the development and management of joint degree programs. Interactive discussions allowed participants to engage in meaningful dialogue, fostering collaboration and sharing best practices. Networking sessions further facilitated the exchange of ideas and potential partnerships.

The event concluded with the drafting of a strategic roadmap for 2024, focusing on accreditation and quality standards for joint programs in Algeria. This roadmap outlined steps for developing and accrediting these programs, ensuring they meet international standards. Discussions also highlighted sustainable funding models and opportunities like the Erasmus Mundus program.
