The National Erasmus+ Office (NEO) in Algeria participated in the European Commission’s Research & Innovation Days 2025, held in Brussels on 16–17 September 2025, marking the sixth edition of the Commission’s flagship event dedicated to shaping Europe’s research and innovation agenda.
This year’s edition took place at a pivotal moment, as discussions are ongoing on the EU’s next long-term budget and several major policy files that will shape the future of European research, innovation, and competitiveness. The event brought together policymakers, researchers, innovators, and business leaders from across Europe and partner countries, offering a high-level platform for dialogue, exchange, and networking.
Across two days and more than 20 sessions, the programme explored Europe’s competitiveness and industrial leadership, addressing key strategic initiatives such as the Startup and Scaleup Strategy, the European Life Sciences Strategy, the AI in Science Strategy, as well as the European Innovation Act and the European Research Area Act. The format combined high-level policy discussions, hands-on thematic sessions, and targeted networking, effectively linking European policy priorities with real-world research and innovation impact.
The event featured a keynote address by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, with opening remarks by Commissioner for Startups, Research and Innovation, Ekaterina Zaharieva. Contributions were delivered by leading voices from EU institutions, science, and industry, including Executive Vice-President Henna Virkkunen and author and science communicator Lucy Hawking.
In parallel, the Research & Innovation Days 2025 Exhibition showcased outstanding EU-funded projects demonstrating tangible benefits for citizens and the European economy. The exhibition highlighted innovative solutions ranging from bio-based cycling clothing and AI tools supporting visually impaired people, to needle-free injection technologies and a digital twin of the world’s oceans, illustrating the concrete impact of EU investment in research and innovation.
As a satellite event, the EIC Drone Day 2025 took place on 16 September as an outdoor exhibition, showcasing innovative companies supported by the European Innovation Council (EIC) alongside institutional exhibitors. The event presented cutting-edge drone technologies and their diverse applications through live demonstrations and direct interaction with innovators.
