On November 28, the National Erasmus+ Office Algeria hosted a virtual follow-up meeting to review and finalize the recommendations from the National Workshop on Higher Education Governance, held on October 28-29 at the University of Biskra.
The session, attended by stakeholders and governance expert Alexander Kohler from Austria, focused on refining the proposals and outlining a roadmap for implementation. Discussions emphasized the need to diversify funding sources and strengthen university-industry partnerships to enhance financial sustainability and align educational programs with labor market demands. Participants also highlighted the importance of institutionalizing quality assurance through the creation of a National Accreditation Agency, promoting internal quality mechanisms, and fostering collaboration between universities.
Digital transformation and data security were identified as critical areas, with recommendations for the digitalization of administrative processes and the implementation of robust cybersecurity measures to improve efficiency and transparency. The meeting also advocated for performance-based governance, proposing agreements between the state and universities to drive accountability and effectiveness. Capacity building and collaboration were emphasized, with a focus on targeted training programs and partnerships at national and international levels to enhance governance capacities.
The finalized recommendations will be submitted to the Ministry of Higher Education for adoption, marking a significant step toward transformative reforms in Algeria’s higher education system. This follow-up meeting underscores the commitment to advancing governance, quality, and innovation within the sector.
