As part of the assessment of the outcomes of the Technical Assistance Mission (TAM) on Internationalisation at Home (IaH) held in Tlemcen in May 2025, a follow-up webinar was organised on 23 June 2025 to reinforce the national efforts towards the development and implementation of a coherent strategy on IaH in Algeria. The event, which brought together key institutional and ministerial stakeholders along with the National Committee for Following Up on International Twinning Agreements, aimed to maintain the momentum initiated during the TAM and provide a space for structured discussion and coordination.
Mr. Rachid Hamdi, Director of Cooperation at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MESRS), reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to integrating internationalisation as a strategic dimension of higher education reform. He underlined the role of the National Committee for Following Up on International Twinning Agreements in steering this process and emphasised the need for close collaboration between higher education institutions and national authorities.
The outcomes of the national working group, which had been mandated by the National Committee to draft a framework for internationalisation in Algerian higher education, were also shared. This work included a SWOT analysis to assess the internal and external context, resulting in the adoption of an adjustment strategy tailored to national realities and priorities. The strategic document outlines key lines of action and provides practical tools to support institutions in designing and implementing their own internationalisation plans.
Mr. Mohamed Boudour, Director of the National Erasmus+ Office (NEO) in Algeria, presented the key conclusions and policy recommendations drawn from the TAM in Tlemcen. These include integrating Internationalisation at Home into national policy frameworks, fostering an institutional culture that supports internal internationalisation, harmonising support mechanisms, and gradually embedding international dimensions into academic programmes. These recommendations are intended to promote national coherence and ensure the sustainability of IaH as a core element of Algeria’s higher education internationalisation strategy.
