On March 13-14, 2024, the University of Science and Technology Houari-Boumediene (USTHB) in Bab Ezzouar hosted a national workshop titled “Entrepreneurial Ecosystem: Towards Start-ups in Higher Education Institutions in Algeria”. This event was a collaboration between the Erasmus+ National Office and the Algerian Ministry of Higher Education, aimed at fostering an efficient entrepreneurial ecosystem within Algeria’s higher education sector. Distinguished attendees included Professor Rachid Hamdi, Director of Cooperation at the MESRS; Dr. Ahmed Mir, President of the National Commission for the Coordination and Monitoring of Innovation and University Incubators; Mrs. Pascal Gualienne, representing the European Union in Algeria; and the Erasmus+ reform experts (HEREs), all showcasing a strong commitment to nurturing innovation and entrepreneurship among academic circles.
The workshop’s success was significantly amplified by the leadership and expertise of Professors Aicha SEKHARI and Yacine Ouzrout, EU experts who guided the discussions and activities. Their roles were crucial in steering the event towards a constructive dialogue on best practices and innovative approaches to embedding entrepreneurship in education. Additionally, the workshop featured presentations on a range of Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) projects, both past and present, funded in Algeria and closely related to the entrepreneurial theme. These presentations, offered by representatives from Algerian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), served to highlight the practical steps being undertaken to integrate entrepreneurship within the academic framework, demonstrating a clear pathway towards the realization of an entrepreneurial ecosystem in Algerian higher education.
