On October 28-29, 2024, Biskra University held a national workshop titled “Towards Modernizing Governance in Higher Education Institutions in Algeria,” welcoming academic leaders and decision-makers, including university rectors, vice-rectors, reform experts (HEREs) and officials from the Eastern Regional University Conference. The event was conducted in a hybrid format, allowing broad participation and promoting discussions on governance frameworks and quality assurance improvements for Algerian universities.
Supported by the Erasmus+ National Office (NEO) in Algeria and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the workshop was part of the Technical Assistance Missions (TAMs), an initiative focused on strengthening educational quality and institutional governance.

In closing remarks, the rector of Biskra University, Professor Mahmoud Debabeche, emphasized the importance of these discussions for the future of Algerian higher education. He highlighted the collaborative spirit that drove the event, expressing hope that the strategies developed would be a foundation for modernized governance and a valuable resource in guiding future policies for education and research in Algeria.
