Future Skills & Learning Innovation in STEM
For two days, TH Köln University of Applied Sciences hosted nearly forty Higher Education Reform Experts (HEREs), along with representatives from the SPHERE team and the European Education and Culture Agency, coming from 19 countries. The study visit, titled “Future Skills and Beyond: New Curricula and Learning Innovation for STEM Education”, offered an inspiring space to explore how universities can shape strategies that equip students with essential future skills in a rapidly changing world.
From Algeria, the Erasmus+ Higher Education Expert, Pr. BOUZIDI Athmane, took part as the country representative.
The first day focused on TH Köln’s approach to strategic university transformation and curriculum innovation, highlighting institutional perspectives on internationalization. Participants engaged in workshops exploring innovative teaching methods such as Living Labs, AI-assisted teaching, game-based learning, and data literacy, all contributing to the development of future-oriented curricula.
The second day provided hands-on experiences with forward-looking engineering programs. Participants discovered the Bachelor’s program “Product Engineering and Context”, explored the integration of hybrid learning formats in architectural education through the “hybrid traces” workshop, and took part in a LEGO® Serious Play® session in the context of entrepreneurship.
The visit concluded at the :metabolon innovation site, where current research on sustainable waste management and circular economy practices was presented, followed by a problem-based workshop on systemic sustainability.
The SPHERE study visit offered valuable insights and fostered an enriching exchange of ideas, strengthening international cooperation and opening new perspectives for innovation in STEM education.
