TCA: Economic Impact of Erasmus+ Student Mobility in Higher Education, Tróia – Portugal

On 23–24 June 2026, the Project Manager of the National Erasmus+ Office (NEO) Algeria participated in the international conference “Economic Impact of Erasmus+ Student Mobility in Higher Education”, held in Tróia, Portugal. The event was organized by the IES-IP, the Portuguese National Agency Erasmus+ Education and Training, in partnership with the Academic Cooperation Association (ACA).

The conference brought together representatives of Erasmus+ National Agencies, higher education institutions, policymakers, researchers, and international organizations to discuss the broader economic and social impact of student mobility. Participants explored how Erasmus+ contributes not only to students’ academic and personal development but also to regional innovation, employability, economic growth, and the internationalisation of higher education systems.

Throughout the two-day programme, experts presented the findings of recent studies on the socio-economic value of Erasmus+ mobility, highlighting its contribution to skills development, labour market integration, and local economies. Discussions also addressed institutional strategies for maximizing the benefits of international mobility, as well as challenges related to student support, housing, and inclusive participation.

The conference provided an excellent opportunity for the NEO Algeria representative to exchange experiences with colleagues from Erasmus+ National Agencies, European higher education institutions, and international organisations. These discussions contributed to strengthening professional networks and identifying good practices that can support the further development and promotion of Erasmus+ opportunities in Algeria.

The participation of the NEO Project Manager reflects the Office’s continued commitment to following European developments in higher education internationalisation and to promoting evidence-based approaches that enhance the impact of Erasmus+ in Algeria. The knowledge and insights gained during the conference will contribute to supporting Algerian higher education institutions in expanding quality mobility opportunities and strengthening their participation in European cooperation programmes.
